Weather. Why This Album Name?
In a recent sit-down interview with Sammi Dae earlier in 2020, at his studio in Manchester, Sammi revealed that the album title ‘Weather’ came to him after early reviews of the songs he was writing for the album returned similar comments from listeners that the variation in genre, mood and flow was reminiscent of changing weather.
A Change In Musical Climate
Sammi Dae recalls that, although the subject of the weather is a hot topic for him -as it is for many – and very much runs hand-in-hand with his concerns about climate change, he didn’t initially equate his production of the tracks for the new ‘Weather’ album to the barometric shift and sway in weather patterns. So the feedback was quite interesting and presented a eureka moment in the thought process for naming the album.
Sammi offered the insight that when in the creative mode, he tends not to focus on genre, “…mood and flow seems to reveal itself the moment I play a sound or pluck a note, but genre comes about at about the same moment”
DGG asked Sammi Dae why the album contains such an eclectic range of songs, from Pop to Latin to House. “I write songs in the moment. I enjoy music…writing, producing, singing and performing. It’s possible that I may be more of a song writer than a performer, and that may well explain why I love to write in whatever genre the mood takes me.”
